Character Education
Lesson:
Respect For The Environment
“You Can’t See The Forest For The Trees”
Objective:
Students will examine the many factors that determine the survival of an
ecological community.
Materials Needed: Respect For Environment Poster
Procedure:
Read the following aloud, then discuss the questions at the end.
Today,
we will begin to look at some of the issues that involve us, both as citizens
and our responsibilities toward our environment.
Let’s look at the poster that focuses on Respect For Environment.
Becoming
conscious of and making an effort to comprehend the complex factors that
surround us and ultimately determine our survival is the key to environmental
awareness. Making an effort to
recycle, reduce, and reuse in our daily lives could be one example of an
environment aware person. Caring
for the land, loving the land, and understanding all it has to offer so that we
can conserve and replenish it are also necessary aspects of this awareness.
Sacrifice is giving up something for an ideal or belief.
Sacrifice is a value of character. The
willingness to sacrifice self for the greater good of society is a trait that
clearly defines a person or character.
Consider,
for a moment, how conservation and sacrifice affects each person, not only as
students at C.C.H.S., but also as citizens of our community, state, and nation.
- In
an agricultural based community, what are some of the environment issues
that involve sacrifice here in Colquitt County?
- The
issue of conservation of water has gotten recent publicity.
How dos your family conserve water?
- How
often do you pause for a moment of meditation, thanks, or prayer in response
to the beauty of the earth?
Conclusion:
Make the effort today to consider some of the issues facing our community
with respect to our environment. You’ll
be the better for it.
